When it opened in 1983, The Maine Outlet was only the 20th factory outlet center in the United States and the first purpose built center in New England. In 1981, RAM optioned an 11-acre site with frontage on both US 1 and Interstate 95, the main car routes into and out of Maine. Ideally located to take advantage of tourist traffic, more than 20 million cars passed by the site annually. The Maine Outlet opened in 1983, was expanded three times, and was recently sold to a large international REIT at one of the highest prices per square foot ever paid for an outlet center in the United States. The same vision that was brought to the development of The Maine Outlet still remains strong within the organization.
